The generous and dedicated people associated with the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes come from all walks of life and reflect the cultural diversity of our area. Our professional staff members handle all daily operations and work closely with the board of directors, volunteers, and partner agencies to carry out our mission.

Bill Drake

Executive Director

Bill became Executive Director in January of 2012. He was an educator for 10 years with the San Marcos CISD where he taught Speech & Debate, Special Education and Gifted & Talent and was the Ropes Course Coordinator for the District. He is a graduate of the University of Texas in Austin with a degree in Organizational Communication and received his Teaching Certification from Southwest Texas State University. Bill’s wife, Elizabeth, is the District and High School Librarian for Burnet CISD and they have two grown daughters. In his spare time he enjoys cooking and working in the yard.

Courtney Smith

Program & Operations Director

Courtney is a 2010 graduate of Burnet High School. She worked at Camp Longhorn for 12 years as a Staff Counselor, Swim bay Director, and Ropes Course Facilitator and Director. Courtney also served as a Life Skills Paraprofessional at Highland Lakes Elementary in Granite Shoals for 4 years, and she worked for the ACE program. She was the Unit Director at our Boys & Girls Club location in Granite Shoals before accepting her position of Program Director in February 2020. Courtney is passionate about her role and enjoys making a difference in the lives of children every single day.

Lauren McAndrews

Resource Development Director

As the first natural born American citizen in my family, I understand the bonds of family and community. I watched both my parents take their oath of citizenship, and the pride and responsibility they took in becoming citizens. This was the foundation for me as I grew up, being community and family focused. Throughout my education, training, and professional careers, I have focused on social services and making our communities healthier and stronger. I have experience in teaching, ministry and over 13 years with Child Protective Services working investigations to ensure child safety. For the last 7 years I have worked as a Development Director for a local nonprofit. I was thrilled at the opportunity to come and join the team at the Boys and Girls Club of the Highland Lakes to help promote safety, wellness, and education of our children. As a proud wife of an Army veteran, and the mother of a beautiful daughter, (who also works during the summer at the Boys and Girls Club), I find myself blessed to work in such an amazing community.

Melissa Bohn

Administrative Services Director

Melissa started her career as a Youth Development Specialist at the Kingsland Branch in September of 2019. She became Branch Director in February of 2020 and added part-time Administrative assistant to her role in August that same year. In October of 2021 she joined the Administrative team as the Administrative Services Director. Melissa grew up in Round Rock, Texas and graduated from Stony Point High School in 2006. She has always known that she wanted to work with kids and make a difference. She moved to the Hill Country with her two sons and began attending Central Texas College to study Early Childhood Education. After many years of working with kids in the area she realized her passion was not in education but at the Boys & Girls Club and is proud to call this organization home.
