To our Community, Stakeholders and Donors,

First, we are thinking of everyone during the recent challenges, fear and uncertainty brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic. We sincerely hope that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

Since our beginning here at the Boys & Girls Club of the Highland Lakes, we have always followed our school districts policy when it comes to unplanned school closures.  When the schools decided to remain closed following spring break, we closed all Highland Lakes Club locations.  With the return to school dates continuing to get extended – now May 4th – we had two options.  One, layoff all non-essential Boys & Girls Club employees, which we definitely didn’t want to be forced to do, and it would make staffing problematic when we reopen, or two, reopen and provide a solution for essential first responders and healthcare professionals who need care for their children. With schools closed and daycares at capacity, we wanted to be a resource and provide a safe place for these kids.

After consulting with the Burnet Health Authority, Dr. Jules Madrigal, we reopened on April 6th at our Burnet and Marble Falls Club Sites with the primary purpose to serve the kids of first responders and primary healthcare employees.  We are operating under strict safety guidelines from Dr. Madrigal and have limited enrollment at each site to no more than 30 kids in Burnet and 50 kids in Marble Falls.

We will be operating at 26% of the normal daily attendance for this time of year.  Consequently, we will increase our hours of operation by 300% and the number of employees by 250%.  This is something we budget for in the summer – not April & May.

I cannot think of any other time in our Club’s History that we have needed the support of our community, stakeholders and donors more.  We are very appreciative of all those who have donated supplies, committed to food service and continue to support our movement financially.  We are also thankful to all of those who are sharing your support for what we are doing not only for the kids, but their parents and the community.

If you’d like to donate, we now have an online tool. Simply go to our website: In the lower right corner is a “Donate” button. If you prefer, you can select a specific club location you want to donate to, or you can choose the COVID-19 campaign to donate to.  All of this is done through our website and is completely secure. We sincerely appreciate everyone’s help.

Most sincerely,

Bill Drake, Executive Director
